2008 Patriot League Men's Basketball Academic Honor Roll
Center Valley, Pa. - Lafayette's Matt Betley, the Patriot League Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was among a group of 27 student-athletes named to the 2008 Patriot League Men's Basketball Academic Honor Roll, Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced on Monday.
Betley heads up the list after posting a 3.50 grade-point average in the spring. The Economics & Business major was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II first team earlier in the year, and finished the season with 11.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
A pair of Lehigh student-athletes that earned All-Patriot League recognition was also on the Academic Honor Roll list. Sophomore Marquis Hall had a 3.26 GPA in the spring semester as a Business major, while freshman Rob Keefer posted a nearly identical 3.25 mark in the same field of study. Hall was a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection, while Keefer earned 2008 Patriot League Rookie of the Year recognition.
Army led all schools with six selections to the Men's Basketball Academic Honor Roll, while Lafayette had five and Lehigh notched four selections.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
