Center Valley, Pa. - Seven Patriot League men's basketball student-athletes were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honor Roll, recognizing collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics.
The Patriot League representatives include American senior Travis Lay and junior Bryce Simon, Colgate senior Peter Minchella, Lafayette seniors Matt Betley and Paul Cummins, Lehigh junior Matt Szalachowski and Navy junior Brian Richards. All class years are from the 2007-08 academic year.
Betley was named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in March, and also joined Lay on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District list. Six of the honorees were earlier named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria that includes being a junior or senior and a varsity player, maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2007-08 academic year, have at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA school.
