WASHINGTON -
The American University volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the AVCA Team Academic Award, marking the seventh consecutive year AU has received the award.
American was one of just six teams in Div. I to earn the award and appear in the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles achieved an overall team GPA of 3.53 during the 2007-08 academic year and placed 10 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
The AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year and honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year. To earn the award teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
