American University has announced the signing of head women's volleyball coach Barry Goldberg to a new contract. Goldberg is a five-time conference coach of the year and has led the Eagles to seven consecutive league championships. This season will be his 20th as head coach at AU.
"We are very pleased that Coach Goldberg will remain the head coach of our volleyball program and continue the tradition of excellence which he has built," Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith Gill said. "Under his guidance, the volleyball team has excelled in the classroom and on the court. We are excited to keep a coach of his magnitude within our department."
During his 20 years as head coach at AU, Goldberg has achieved the following:
474-178 career record
Ranks 21st among active NCAA Division I coaches in career wins
Nine conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in the past 11 seasons
Five All-America Honorable Mention selections
Eight conference players of the year
Five Academic All-Americans
Two National Academic Players of the Year
The Eagles will open their 2008 season on Friday, August 29th against George Washington at George Mason in the first match-up of the D.C. Volleyball Classic.
